When I think of joy I think of emotions such as happiness, excitement, zeal. Places in life where joy is found in experiencing something I love; the excitement of a sports event, the thrill of painting, or the company of loved ones. Spaces in time that are joyful to be in. But what about those spaces in life that seem less than joyful? We are told many times in the Bible to live with joy even in difficult times, but how?
When we find our joy only in life’s circumstances our joy moves up and down with life- like a rollercoaster. But when we find our joy in Jesus our Savior, it is possible to be joyful in all circumstances. There is a joy that can happen out of sorrow and troubles. This difficult place can become special when we find security in the Lord and discover his peace that covers our heart and mind. That space where we know we are truly His. Often it is in these very places that we experience the deepest presence and strength of Gods grace leading our lives. And it is in this that our joy abounds.
“You will show me the way of life,
granting me the joy of your presence
and the pleasures of living with you forever.” Psalm 16:11
