Being Content

I read several articles on things we can do that will make us happier; here are just a few I thought were interesting…

Exercise more
Get Culture
Get a Dog
Sleep more
Practice Smiling
Follow your inner rhythm
Text a friend
Rearrange your furniture
Wear bright colored socks
Take a run around your block

As much as it brings a smile to my heart and may add joy to life…I know true contentment goes much deeper. Contentment is not about possessions or circumstances, it is not something that comes to us naturally, true contentment is learned.

Paul says in Philippians 4:11b-13

“For I have learned to be content whatever the circumstances. I know what it is to be in need, and I know what it is to have plenty. I have learned the secret of being content in any and every situation, whether well fed or hungry, whether living in plenty or in want. I can do all this through him who gives me strength.”

Paul experienced much transformation within his life…Pharisee to Apostle, the persecution of Christians, to being a Christian persecuted. His thinking was transformed on the road to Damascus when he encountered Christ as his Lord and Savior but contentment was learned as his heart was transformed though his journey with Christ. He learned it was never in his own nature or abilities but of the nature of Christ within Him. “I can do all this through Him who gives me strength”
