I think most of us have hopes, expectations, a longing of something we desire to see accomplished or fulfilled. Hope is a line between faith and fulfillment. We have faith to see something happen… we hang on to the line of hope trusting that somehow, somewhere, on the other end is fulfillment. I think one of the greatest questions we can ask in examining our hope is… Do my hopes have a foundation I can trust in? Are they founded in my own selfish ambitions? Are they founded in worldly pleasures? Or are they founded upon God’s promises in Scripture? Romans 15:4 teaches us…

“ For whatever was written in former days was written for our instruction, that through endurance and through the encouragement of the Scriptures we might have hope.”

Hope without a foundation may become more wishful thinking than hope at all. It may even lead us off course to disappointment. But when our hope is founded upon God’s truths, we can trust in confident expectation that there is fulfillment for our good.

“May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, so that by the power of the Holy Spirit you may abound in hope.” Romans 15:13
